This box held a lot more than I was expecting.
I ended up with a dehydrator full.
4 saved for a side dish of baked sweet potatoes.
14 quarts of canned sweet potatoes
6 pints of canned sweet potatoes
10 cups of puree -- enough for 4 deep dish pies
Why would someone not take free food. I have a sister who left bacon in the fridge till it went bad and she threw it away. There were a couple of pounds and when I told her she should have froze it she laughed and said she doesn't freeze that much meat. More money than sense. Cheryl
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way. I try to freeze or preserve things any way I can.
DeleteI just can't bring myself to throw it away. I cringe if I accidentally let something to too long and have to toss it. Today I put 5 bananas in the freezer for future banana bread.
That was a big job, but what a nice windfall for you. Just discovered that I used the last of my canned sweet potatoes up, better be a good crop this year!

It was a very nice gift. I was down to 1 jar in the pantry that I kept passing over because I hated to use up the last of them. Now I don't have that problem and I think we are set for the year.
DeleteYour efforts are well worth it. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I see a traditional meal with sweet potatoes as a side at least once a month for the rest of the year.
DeleteWhat a great find for you! That was so nice of whoever it was to give them to you and what great use you put them to. That will last for a long time. Terrific. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks. I thought it was really nice of her, too. I think we should be set for the year. (My husband is the most excited about just "having" to eat sweet potato pie...lol)
DeleteWow! That is a great find and you really ended up with a nice stash for your pantry.
