Early Mornings

After pretty much a full day and night's sleep thanks to allergy medications, I was wide awake at an early morning hour.  I decided to take advantage of the coolest temps of the day to bake a cake. These are never the prettiest, becuase the frosting sets up quickly.  However, the taste is fabulous if you like old fashioned frosting.  Growing up this was the only kind of frosting I ever remember my paternal Grandmama making.  It is what I think of when I think of cake.

  1. I personally think it's gorgeous! I also grew up with homemade frosting, the stuff in tubs has a metalic taste to me.

    1. I think it has an off taste, too! And it feels waxy to my mouth.

  2. My mom used to make a cooked fudge frosting like that. Now she can't remember how to do it.

    1. Did she make the hard fudge frosting or the one that is in between? This one is in between, but I also have a recipe for the hard fudge frosting (the one that cracks when you slice the cake and looks horrible, but tastes sooooo good!)

Due to a large volume of spamming I’ve had to undo the “anyone” can comment feature. Hoping this lets all of us not have to wade through the hoopla.
