My Frugal Accomplishments Last Week

We survived the last week of our busiest time of year. I feel like that was the biggest accomplishment.

While I didn't stick to the menu in detail I am pleased that we stuck to it in spirit.  In traveling, we also packed all our meals from the pantry supplies. We also had surprise guests that we fed without having to run out for supplies.

I did some knitting on a sweater vest using leftover yarn from another project.

I took advantage of going out of business sales for Hancock Fabric and JoAnn's. I bought my mama's combined birthday and Mother's Day gift -- a bolt of muslin for quilts. I picked up 5 sewing patterns over half off. I bought two skeins of yarn. I also bought fabric and batting for a blanket for my grandson.  While none of it was inexpensive I did buy what was on my running list and I am pleased with what I picked up.

I took advantage of CVS coupons and came home with 3 large bottles of laundry detergent free. I also bought 6 packages of toilet paper and got back $10 in rewards. There was nothing else I needed so I am saving the rewards for next weeks sales.

I found myself two new shirts at the thrift store for good prices.

I sadly broke my glasses and had to go to the eye doctor and order more. I shopped carefully with quality and cost in mind. Still expensive, but turned out to be good. Turns out my headaches were a result of vision changes and it was time for the old to go anyway.

  1. So glad you ended up going to the eye doctor-even though it was expensive it was worth it in the end. I went to CVS for the first time in a long time last week and got a few good deals. I haven't went before because it was in another town. Now we go there for an appointment so I'm stopping and excited for deals! Have a great day!

    1. We have one around the corner or I am not sure I would even use it....lol. I tend to think unless I am already near a store, or they are having extremely good sales, that I am not saving by making a special trip.

  2. I used to get all the good deals (double and triple coupon stacking) 2-3 years ago but that definitely changed. Not as many good deals here any more. And the system caught on with the smart CVS shoppers and my local stores do lot let using double stack coupons any more :(

    1. Wow! I've never managed to get the amazing coupon deals other people seem to get. I just try to only pick up things I know we will use at prices I can justify. I rarely walk away with free things, but I do try to keep a little cash aside for unexpected sales.

  3. I just got some glasses from Costco. I'm going to pick them up soon, and have been told by many that their glasses from there are great. I hope mine are, too. I have a daughter who works at an eye doctor and she prefers me to go to a "regular" doctor, but this was 1/2 the price and that doctor did all the same things the other ones did--so here's hoping.

    1. I hear a lot of great things about Costco. We don't have one in our area. Much to my amusement after I bought my glasses they sent me a coupon for $50 off. Ugh! Anyway, daughter is due in a few months for her annual eye exam so I am going to ask if I can transfer it to her.

  4. I just ordered new glasses, too, from Costco. They were 1/2 the price of the ones last time from a private eye clinic. I'm hoping they work as well. I'll know soon:)

Due to a large volume of spamming I’ve had to undo the “anyone” can comment feature. Hoping this lets all of us not have to wade through the hoopla.
