Pantry Filling -- Opportunity and Seasonal

I try to always take advantage of "opportunity" items and seasonal item prices....at least when they are items we use regularly and that will store well.

I spent $54 and added 24 cans of pumpkin, 24 cans of organic beans, 4 boxes of pasta, and 6 packages of gnocchi to our pantry. The pasta boxes and the gnocchi will yield two meals each.  I store tomatoes for a quick sauce, which makes these my idea of convenience foods.  I can do the same with the beans -- chili, burritos, tacos, soup, beans and rice, and the list goes on.  Another convenience item.  Pumpkin can be baked into  sweets or used in sauces, chili, and soups.

By shopping at Aldi and keeping money aside for "finds" I was able to buy this all for the price of what a "named brand"  amount of pumpkin would have cost me at the local grocery stores.

    1. Me, too! I can't always find the same things at our store so I've tried to learn their cycles.

  2. Great deals! I like to stock up on staples, too. And Aldi really does have fantastic prices. With this past hurricane and an extended power outage, I'm revisiting my pantry stores and thinking about how we could have prepared differently. Obviously a little more than a day without power isn't really all that harrowing, but I wasn't sure how long it would last and one thing I wished I had on hand was some canned beans. Generally I prefer to cook beans from dry, but canned beans are obviously appreciated when the power is out!

    1. I love that canned beans can be used for a quick salad or sandwich filling.

Due to a large volume of spamming I’ve had to undo the “anyone” can comment feature. Hoping this lets all of us not have to wade through the hoopla.
